MRV’s LambdaDriver Optical Transport & WDM solution expands capacity and service capabilities on one of the world’s largest Internet Exchanges while optimizing space, power and costs
CHATSWORTH, Calif., Nov 8, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
MRV Communications™, Inc. (OTC Pink Sheets: MRVC) (“MRV” or the “Company”), a leading provider of optical communications network infrastructure equipment and integration and managed services, today announced the London Internet Exchange (LINX), a mutually-owned membership association for IP network operators and one of the world’s largest Internet Exchanges, has selected MRV’s LambdaDriver™ Optical Transport and Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (WDM) solution to provide a core router interconnect for LINX’s Internet Exchange in London. MRV will enable LINX to expand its bandwidth capacity to accommodate increased traffic growth ahead of the 2012 London Olympics, as well as address increased demand for new content-rich services such as video, collaboration and cloud computing.
As one of the main hubs of UK internet traffic, LINX’s ten points of presence (PoPs) across London handle large volumes of traffic each day. With over 390 members in over 50 countries worldwide, it is critical for LINX infrastructure to offer a reliable exchange of traffic with increased routing control and improved performance, all while accommodating new growth in the system. MRV’s LambdaDriver series is a standards-based, multi-functional, compact, modular WDM system that enables high-capacity dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) services between nodes of the network, reducing the need to lease or buy dark fiber, thus offering cost-effective bandwidth expansion. The solution is capable of providing exceptional internetworking support for varying data rates of 2 Mbps up to 40 Gbps as well as seamless upgrade to 100 Gbps for a wide range of services including data storage, video, Ethernet and more.
"With demands for bandwidth set to massively increase in the coming years, it is critical we offer our members the most flexible and scalable network possible to accommodate that growth and for LINX to remain at the forefront of the IXP industry," said John Souter, Chief Executive Officer for the London Internet Exchange. "MRV allowed us to provide a future-proof solution and its flexibility enables us to meet the diverse requirements of our members."
The LambdaDriver platform is ideally suited for many market segments, including enterprises, service providers, mobile operators and internet exchanges, like LINX, that require the ability to create highly flexible and scalable networks with low power consumption and optimum rack space. MRV’s Optical Communications Systems™ (OCS) division collaborated with LINX to provide a core router interconnect that combines a modular design for space and power efficiency, high-bandwidth scalability, low latency, and ease-of-use with advanced resilience and protection schemes and an extremely competitive mechanical design.
“The LambdaDriver solution enables our customers to optimize network space, infrastructure and power while addressing the most advanced optical transport requirements and migration path to the 100G era,” said David Stehlin, SVP, Global Sales & Marketing for MRV’s Optical Communications Systems division. “The result is significant savings in operational expenses and a next-generation network that can accommodate current capacity needs and easily scale to meet the bandwidth requirements of the future.”

About LambdaDriver™
MRV’s LambdaDriver™ is a premiere optical transport platform for building high-performance DWDM/Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) networks. Its power and space efficiency meets present and future enterprise and data center markets requirements. With high levels of Performance Monitoring, Optical Transport Network (OTN) and Reconfigurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) capabilities, LambdaDriver addresses the needs of metropolitan carrier and long-haul transport networks. LambdaDriver uses advanced technologies for efficient multi-service transport over a single wavelength, thus introducing an additional level of infrastructure efficiency into metropolitan networks. Additionally, the solution’s low latency and encryption features provide considerable added value for connectivity of financial institutions. By integrating Carrier Ethernet connection-oriented services, LambdaDriver provides a cost and space efficient solution for IP over WDM (IPoWDM) applications. LambdaDriver blades are available for operation with data rates from 8 Mbps up to 40 Gbps with a future upgrade-path to 100 Gbps.
